چکیده

The scaling properties of self-avoiding polymerized 2-dimensional membranes are studied via renormalization group methods based on a multilocal operator product expansion. The renormalization group functions are calculated to second order. This yields the scaling exponent ν to order ε2. Our extrapolations for ν agree with the Gaussian variational estimate for large space dimension d and are close to the Flory estimate for d = 3. The interplay between self-avoidance and rigidity at small d is briefly discussed. Self-avoiding Polymerized Membranes

Recent progresses in the understanding of the scaling behavior of self-avoiding flexible polymerized membranes (tethered manifolds) are reviewed (joint works with B. Duplantier and E. Guitter, and with K. Wiese). They rely on a new general renormalization group approach for a class of models with non-local singular interactions. This approach allows to prove the existence of a ǫ-expansion for t...

Renormalization and hyperscaling for self-avoiding manifold models.

The renormalizability of the self-avoiding manifold (SAM) Edwards model is established. We use a new short distance multilocal operator product expansion, which extends methods of local field theories to a large class of models with non-local singular interactions. This validates the direct renormalization method introduced before, as well as scaling laws. A new general hyperscaling relation is...

Effects of Self - Avoidance on the Tubular Phase of Anisotropic Membranes

We study the tubular phase of self-avoiding anisotropic membranes. We discuss the renormalizability of the model Hamiltonian describing this phase and derive from a renor-malization group equation some general scaling relations for the exponents of the model. We show how particular choices of renormalization factors reproduce the Gaussian result, the Flory theory and the Gaussian Variational tr...

Renormalization Theory for the Self-Avoiding Polymerized Membranes

We prove the renormalizability of the generalized Edwards model for self-avoiding polymerized membranes. This is done by use of a short distance multilocal operator product expansion, which extends the methods of local field theories to a large class of models with non-local singular interactions. This ensures the existence of scaling laws for crumpled self-avoiding membranes, and validates the...
